ReflecTeen Winner of StreetGames’ Doorstep Sport Award

Case Study

A Manchester based youth organisation has been crowned this years’ winner of the StreetGames Doorstep Sport Award in recognition of their outstanding work in local communities.

ReflecTeen, established in 2017, currently works across three hubs providing early intervention services through mentoring, sports and educational support to equip young people to be more able to deal with challenging circumstances in their lives. For the last three years, they have been delivering holiday-active programmes that engage young people aged 8 to 18 during the school holidays.

Most recently, ReflecTeen delivered their four-week summer holiday programme, offering a variety of multi-sports activities alongside their exceptional commitment to providing diverse, engaging, educational, and socially impactful experiences for children and young people. This award recognises their efforts in organising memorable activities that promote interpersonal relationships, including visits to Smithhill farm, amusement park, nature walks, visits to the seaside, social action activities, cooking sessions, leadership and teamwork activities, as well as indoor and outdoor games to keep young people active and fed with nutritional meals.

ReflecTeen stands out for its comprehensive, holistic, and youth-led activities program. Session plans and delivery are dynamic and engaging, developing young people’s social and leadership skills. Activities present an opportunity for joy and excitement as well as enabling participants to explore their surroundings, fostering a sense of adventure and curiosity. They encourage their participants to be active in all areas of their community, including social action, environmental consciousness, cooking sessions, nutrition education, and leadership skills.

Mark Lawrie, StreetGames’ Chief Executive, said:

StreetGames’ Doorstep Sport award recognises organisations that have gone above and beyond to bring sports and physical activities to the doorsteps of underserved communities.

ReflecTeen exemplify a profound commitment to fostering inclusivity, community well-being, and personal development and are making a real and lasting difference to the local community. Their wide range of activities and real support for the young people they work with is making positive change and delivering activities that simply wouldn’t be available without them.”
